The North Star Cherry tree is a dwarf, vase-shaped fruit tree which typically grows only 7-10 feet tall and produces one crop per year of large, bright red, sour cherries with yellow flesh. White fragrant blossoms appear early in spring. Plant in average, medium moisture, well drained soil in full sun. Prefers moisture-retentive soils with good drainage. No tolerance for wet soils. Often bears in second year. This is an excellent cherry for pies and cobblers! The North Star is self pollinating, however, plant an additional sour cherry to increase production. At least 500 chill hours are required, Cherries ripen in June.
